Connect an Existing Domain to BrilliantCloud

If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use it with your BrilliantCloud website without transferring it to us.

There are two ways to connect your domain:

  • Nameservers (recommended)
  • CNAME

Both methods allow you to use your existing domain with your BrilliantCloud website.

Which option should I choose?

Nameservers (Recommended)

  • Easy to set up
  • Full DNS management in your BrilliantCloud account
  • Existing DNS records are replaced with our default records

CNAME

  • Keep your DNS hosted with your current provider
  • Suitable if you cannot or do not want to change your nameservers

This is the easiest and recommended way to connect your domain.

Step 1: Change your nameservers

Log in to your current domain provider and replace your existing nameservers with the nameservers provided in your BrilliantCloud account.

Step 2: Add your domain

Log in to your BrilliantCloud dashboard.

Go to Domains and click Add Domain.

Enter your domain name and, if desired, enable Primary Domain to make it your website's main address.

Your domain will automatically become active once the nameserver changes have propagated.

Important

Changing your nameservers replaces your current DNS configuration. Existing DNS records (such as email, subdomains or other services) are not copied automatically and will be overwritten by the default BrilliantCloud DNS records. After your domain is connected, you can manage and customize your DNS records from your BrilliantCloud dashboard.

Connect using a CNAME

If you prefer to keep your DNS managed by your current provider, you can connect your domain using a CNAME record.

Kosten voor een CNAME koppeling

A €5.00 per domain per year service fee applies when connecting your domain using a CNAME record.

Step 1: Create a CNAME record

Log in to the DNS management panel of your current provider and create the CNAME record using the values shown in your BrilliantCloud dashboard.

Step 2: Add your domain

Log in to your BrilliantCloud dashboard.

Go to Domains and click Register Domain.

Enter your domain name and enable Primary Domain if you want to use it as your website's main domain.

Once the DNS changes have propagated, your domain will be connected.

DNS propagation

After changing your nameservers or DNS records, it can take up to 48 hours before the changes are visible worldwide. In most cases, the connection is active within a few hours.
